Old-school bodybuilder and former Mr Universe Lou Ferrigno is one of the most famous bodybuilders because of his television and movie career in The Incredible Hulk, Pumping Iron, Sinbad and the Seven Seas, and Hercules. Ferrigno was a huge name in bodybuilding in the Seventies, the peak of his career being his two victories at Mr Universe in 1973 and 1974. He still competed afterwards, earning respectable showings in Mr Olympia up to two decades after his prime. Born in Brooklyn, life has not been easy for Lou Ferrigno. An ear infection as a child left him with his hearing 80% gone, but Ferrigno reports that, rather than bringing him down, he used it as a motivator, and started to lift weights when he was only 13 years old! His drive led him to success at a number of things, as he worked along the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Pumping Iron, and became iconic of a generation of comic book geeks as the Hulk. Today, he makes occasional TV appearances on The King of Queens, and continues to promote health and fitness. |
